My Teaching Philosophy: Aiming for a Smoother Road
I want to help make someone's road a little smoother than mine.
Like many young people today, I struggled with school as a child. Those early struggles have been motivational to me throughout my life. I know what it's like to be the kid in school that doesn't quite fit in. I became a teacher because I wanted to help others, and possibly help make someone's road a little smoother than mine.
For me, art was what cemented my life experiences and love of learning together.
The arts are about learning to think - how to problem-solve, to observe life and understand your place in it. Well-made art is analytical, intentional and a reflection of life. It's also a reflection of you. It's about dealing with the struggles you have in life - finding healthy and creative ways to express your frustration or your happiness. It is a crucial ingredient for the developing young mind.
I am excited to share my appreciation for art with my students.
