My name is David and I'm an artist.

I hid it for decades – from a micro-culture that valued vocational and technical skills over creative thinking and self-awareness. I tried to avoid it by doing what was expected of me, like following in my father’s footsteps in construction and military. Finally I found that I had to be me and admit to myself that I’m an artist. And that is a great thing to be.

Being an artist is my addiction, and I'm proud of it. I have an endless need to feed the artist inside by creating more. When I’m working on a project, everything seems larger than life, like looking through a magnifying glass – the world becomes clearer when viewed through the artistic eye. I see beauty in the texture, curves, contours, colors, patterns and variety in everything.

The great thing about this addiction is that it’s good for me. I’m dedicated to nurturing my artistic needs in any way possible, and to finding ways that I can use it to benefit those around me. Whether I’m teaching in a classroom or creating as a full-time studio artist - either way I’ll find myself happy.
